Digital Cameras?

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

i’m planning to buy a new digital camera. can you give suggestions on what brand to buy? something that is not so expensive.I am also consern on the pixels and the colors…thank you so much

Start with the budget. This may seem backwards, but it’s not. You can find a decent camera to match any amount of money you want to spend.

Next, find a friend who will help you learn how to use the camera. This "friend" could even be the clerk in your local photo shop. By "photo shop," I mean an actual camera shop or at least a camera department where the sales staff only deals with cameras and not dishwashers, too. Buy the camera that your friend recommends so that they will be able to teach you how to use it.

After you know what you are doing and are ready for your next camera – and this will come sooner than you think – you will be in a position to make your own choice.

If you have some vague ideas about price and desired features, go to http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/compare.asp and see what they select for you.

Choose the best one by deciding what you want to do, how much you want to learn, how far you want to progress and how much you want to spend.

What is the best camera for an amateur who can’t spend too much money?

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

I ordred a proffesional camera from E-Bay, and when it came in, it did not even work! I guess that’s E-Bay for you. We are in the process of returning it. In the meantime my husband was able to get me a camera at a low cost from where he works, but it is only a small digital camera. The pictures I have taken with it are still not as good as I would have hoped, regardless of how the subject is posed and the angle I am shooting at. I understand about trying to photograph in the early morning and late evening to acheive the best lighting. But the colors are still not very bright and the picture not very sharp. Do I really just need to get a more professional camera to acheive this, or is it possible to get good quality photos from a cheap camera with the right experience? What type of camera would you recommend for an amateur photographer, when we really can’t afford the thousand dollar ones?

I can suggest three options for you:

1. Check the Canon S3 iS for $350 at Beachcamera.com (it has a 12X zoom lens, and many features of a DSLR but not exchangeable lens capacity, which you would not need with that monster lens).

2. Go to www.keh.com and check the Nikon D70S with the kit lens. It has recently been superceded by the D50 and the D80 but it is STILL a great camera and has all the features you will need for a long time to come. You should be able to pick up a reasonably good one for about $400-$450. It is still a very popular model worldwide.

3. Check the Nikon D50 for about $500-$550 at www.bhphotovideo.com and you’ll have a decent camera for learning and fun times.

These suggested cameras will give you all the control you will need (plus automation, if you do not feel comfortable using the camera on your own) to get great images. But do remember that a camea is only a lightproof box, and the lens is sometimes more important since it is the part that sends the "images" (or reflected light) to the film or sensor to record… and how good it reaches the film or sensor is what determines how good your images will be (how good they are printed will be determined by the printer used and the paper and inks used). Good luck and best wishes.

What digital camera would be best for me and my price range this Christmas?

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

I want a digital camera that gives me the best point-and-click capabilities, and gives me the best quality digital photographs for around $300. I’ve looked at the Nikon Coolpix and some Sony and Canon camera’s. Can someone that knows what their talking about give me some professional advice as to what camera would be best for me?

If you are really on a budget and want the best quality for the money, check out the P&S Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ28 which has more features than most pro DSLRs that require auxiliary lenses not even equal to the single initial full-range lense that comes with the FZ28. It is reviewed at:

http://www.steves-digicams.com/2008_reviews/panasonic_fz28.html

It just came out on November 4, 2008.

It’s an all-in-one 10.1 megapixel DSLR camera which includes (i) built-in image stabilization; (ii) HDTV quality video [Quicktime]; (iii) a 18x zoom [27 - 486 mm (35mm equiv.)] "Leica" lense for nature photography; (iv) up to 0.39 inch macro option; (v) up to 6400 ASA; (vi) takes up to 380 pictures per 120 min. battery charge; (vii) has a "burst speed" of 13 fps; and sells new for $270 at amazon.com.

Here’s an actual handheld picture of the moon:

Good luck!

What should I do to get a video camera to borrow?

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

I used my friend’s video camera and 8mm video cassettes to tape. My friends lives far away and I only have their tapes, nto the camera. Now I want to download the video to my computer, but my camera (a similar version) won’t play the tapes properly. I asked my others friends but none of their cameras take the same kinds of tapes. Where in Ontario Canada can I borrow a video camera just to download my tapes? Does anyone have any ideas on what I should do? My friend suggested Wal-Mart but they said they only sell video cameras.

THANKS!

Go to Wal-Mart, but go to the photo center, and ask them to put your tape on a disc. Hope this helps!

Can you list camera lens brands from best to worst?

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

I bought a canon xsi and I need help choosing a lens, I’m planning to get a 28-300mm lens, if you can point out the advantages and disadvantages on the camera lens it would be so great.

Don’t get something with such a huge focal length range. Making a lens that can cover such a range means that they have to make a lot of sacrifices in image quality. Also, most photography happens in the 20-100mm rang so there’s no point having a physically huge lens on your camera when most of your photography doesn’t require it. The whole benefit of SLRs is that you can switch lenses.

Camera Lenses?

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

I am planning to buy a lens for my camera. I have a Canon EOS Rebel XTi. I don’t know which one to buy a Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro USM Lens or a Canon EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM Standard Zoom Lens?

The 100 2.8 is a fast excellent for portraits however, your stuck with a straight lens, no room to take in a lot of area. The 28-135 3.5-5.6 is a slow lens. Not too good in low light but you are able to take in a wider area or zoom in close on you subject.

What is a good digital SLR camera to buy for an amateur photographer?

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

I want to upgrade to a digital camera and I was wondering what would be a good one to go with for an amateur photographer. I like the Cannon Rebel line of cameras but I was wondering what a more affordable option might be. What are your thoughts on the Pentax K100d. I learned on a Pentax K1000 and I read that most of the older lenses will fit the Pentax digital SLR cameras.

I believe the K100D and K100D Super have been discontinued. Newer models are the K10D and K20D.

Pentax is still using the venerable K-mount it introduced in 1975 so any older K-mount manual focus lens can be used with the newest DSLR cameras. There will be limited functionality (manual focus, stop-down metering) but they will enjoy the benefits of image stabilization since Pentax placed it in the camera body. If you have several K-mount lenses in good condition then buy the Pentax DSLR.

Since Sony bought the DSLR line from Konica-Minolta in 2006, the Sony Alpha (A) series cameras use the Minolta A-mount introduced with the Minolta Maxxum AF 35mm film camera of 1985. So any Maxxum AF lens will be right at home on the Sony A200 or A350 or A700. Sony also incorporates image stabilization in the camera body.

Best site for camera reviews and info on the WWW? You agree?

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

http://www.cameralabs.com/

compare it to dpreview or kens place……

if your agree, please enjoy many hours of pleasure, the wonderful videos of instruction and demos of tools,

thanks accepted, but better still, use it in links for people if you wish, its gota be better than one of the above?

You know…..I really enjoy the site actually. Dpreview is still a very comprehensive site, but I will definetely bookmark this site and add it to my list of favs. If anything, it’s easier on the eyes [to read] than dpreview. A great site, thanks A.

How do cameras in the courts arouse controversy about the right of privacy? What?

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

How do cameras in the courts arouse controversy about the right of privacy? What about the constitutionality of cameras in the courtroom?

Please be helpful, if you aren’t going to help, please don’t answer.

well the immediate problem I see with the cameras….would be when they are used

for example, if the case was a rape case and the rape victim has to get on the stand to testify to the gory details of what happened this would be almost like being raped twice.

Think of the last time you had sex…now think of sharing EVERY detail of this with billions of strangers AND YOUR MOTHER.

OR

A gang murder with a witness that is reluctant since
he or she does not have to guess what happens to people that this gang does not like
so he testifies and now his homies know who the next target is for the latest crime.

OR a jury
that is not sequestered
On and on

and this is just assuming that all the players (judges, attorney’s etc) arent playing to the cameras to futher their political careers
ala OJ simpson
