What digital camera takes the highest quality photo?
so what kind of camera do you have? do you like the quality of pictures? are they really clear? i currently have one of those Olympus underwater cameras and while it is virtually indestructible i have had to sacrifice on the quality of the images
I’m looking to get a camera within the next couple months. from your own experience, what point and shoot camera takes the clearest photo:
also what high zoom digital cameras have the clearest or highest quality photos. i’m really not looking to spend more then a grand on a camera.
i appreciate your input or advice

Here is a link to all the high quality digital camera and how the stack up to each other, head to head.
The top 97 are listed, so I am sure you should be able to find one that will suit you

EDIT:
That was what you asked in the first line of your question.
Now to what you meant to ask us.
Olympus as you know makes some of the most indestructible P&S cameras made and if they are designed to be dropped, taken underwater or used in extreme environmental conditions, they are going to be small and not provide the user with optical zoom lenses beyond about 5x and they are going to have tiny sensors … which by nature will produce lower grade images than say a DSLR with a sensor that is over 15 times larger than a P&S camera.
Canon makes one camera that can stand being dropped and can survive "water-boarding", the D10
Pentax has a "W" series P&S camera that is designed for what you have in mind as far as being able to withstand abuse.

You are going to have to take an SD card with you and test the Pentax and Canon cameras yourself to make sure they meet your criteria

The 50MP Hasselblad takes the highest quality photo. You may have to sell the farm to get this one.
I have a Pentax K200 dSLR and I like the quality of pictures I take with it. They are all clear. I make sure they are.
I find my wife’s Sony Cybershot S980 point-and-shoot camera easy to use with a sufficient amount of controls to satisfy my craving to adjust before shooting. The pictures I take with it are all clear and have nice quality. I make sure they come out that way.
Picture quality is dependent on the user. The camera is just a tool.
