What is a good camera lens for night photography?

One that can capture the moon, or the dark sky with clouds? The camera I have isn’t even close to taking a decent shot of the night today ): So what’s a lens that will provide me with a clean, crisp and colorful imagine of the night sky?

That depends on what camera you have.

Any will do that can achieve the same during the day. What you need more than a lens is a good tripod.

That’s because even fast prime lenses are not up to the task of doing this handheld, they can’t gather enough light in a sufficiently short time for a steady shot. For night photography (unless there are lots of bright street lights) a tripod is mandatory, enabling you to use long exposure times to make up for the lack of light. These then pretty much render the maximum aperture of the lens to be a moot point.

You don’t need a lens, you need knowledge. Learning how to do time exposure is your only answer.
There’s lots of tutorials on line that can help. You’ll also need a tripod and you’ll need to learn how to use your camera’s 10-second timer.

You might want a good telephoto lens in order to get a lot of detail.
