what camera allows you to highlight a certain color in a picture?

Sunday, June 27th, 2010

i had a really great and kind of old camera that allows you to highlight or swap colors when taking a picture. now i lost the camera and if i don’t find it i need to get a new one, but i don’t know what the camera is called. thank you for helping!

I have the canon powershot SD800 and I got it just for that feature, but it’s old now. Check the updated versions and look for the "color accent" feature

Police Brutality: Woman Beaten Off Camera (graphic)

Friday, June 25th, 2010

The officer who beat the woman got fired, but no charges were filed! There is a petition online to press charges against him, we need 2000 votes but only have 720. Please post this link next to the video so people can sign!
http://www.thepetitionsite.com/1/The-case-of-Angela-Garbarino

http://www.abcnews.go.com/GMA/story?id=4309643&page=1
After Angela Garbarino was arrested in Shreveport, Louisiana last November on suspicion of drunk driving, she wound up lying on the police station floor in a pool of her own blood with two black eyes, a broken nose, two broken teeth, and other cuts and bruises.

Garbarino says that Officer Wiley Willis beat her up after turning off the police video camera. Willis’s attorney insists that Garbarino slipped and fell when Willis tried to prevent her from leaving the room. However, Garbarino says that the extent of her injuries are proof that she was beaten.

The police video obtained by ABC News shows Garbarino demanding the right to make a phone call. “I have the right to call somebody right now and I know that,” she yells. Officer Willis instead begins handcuffing her. She wiggles away, he pulls her back sharply by her wrists, and she hits the wall and falls on the floor.

Willis pushes her down into a chair three successive times as she repeatedly stands up again, increasingly distraught and screaming, “Get away from me!” Willis is finally shown leaning over her and asking, “Do you understand me?” to which she replies, “Yeah, I understand.” Willis then walks over and turns off the camera.

When the video resumes, Garbarino is lying in the floor in a pool of her own blood. There is an apparent cut in what ABC aired, but according to KTBS in Shreveport, Willis turns Garbarino on her back, telling her, “Lay down, don’t move,” and she replies, “I can’t believe you just did what you just did. I really can’t.”

Willis has since been dismissed from the police force. KTBS states that “Willis was fired by Police Chief Henry Whitehorn earlier this month for how he treated Garbarino during the whole episode, not for her injuries.”

Willis is appealing his dismissal, and his attorney insists that his client was following procedures in turning off the camera. According to KTBS, “Authorities familiar with Shreveport police policy said a person is read their rights and gets an explanation of what’s going to happen next. That is followed by a sobriety test. If the person refuses, the officer can turn off the tape and take them to an adjoining room, handcuff them to a bench, fill out the paperwork and charge them.”

However, experts suggested to ABC that Willis should have called for female backup when Garbarino began resisting. One criminologist stated, “I think we have a situation where the arrested person is refusing to cooperate and the police officer apparently overreacted.”

What is the best camera (or camera brand) for aspiring photographers?

Thursday, June 17th, 2010

What is the best camera (or camera brand) for aspiring photographers?
I want to buy a good camera with good photo quality, because I want to try some amateur photography (hopefully progress to professional after I’m done with college), so I need to know the best camera to start out on. I also want to know which is better Canon or Nikon? If anyone can help, please do! And any info on photography would be great!

I recommend you start off with a semi-professional digital SLR. It will probably cost you around 400 – 700 dollars depending on the brand and/or features.
Something like:
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Canon+-+EOS+Digital+Rebel+XS+10.1-Megapixel+Digital+SLR+Camera+-+Black/8929699.p?id=1214611419717&skuId=8929699
or
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Canon+-+EOS+Digital+Rebel+T1i+15.1-Megapixel+Digital+SLR+Camera+-+Black/9318954.p?id=1218084392413&skuId=9318954
if you’re willing to go a bit pricier.
A major difference in those two, is that the 2nd one (EOS Digital Rebel T1i) has 15 mega-pixels, as opposed to the 1st one (EOS Digital Rebel XS) which has 10.1 mega-pixels.
You can check out the rest of the features :)

Nikon and Canons don’t have too much of a difference, when one comes out with a new product/feature, the other soon comes to compete. Nikon though, is an older company, but Canon has also come to the same in recent years.

Personally, I prefer Nikons, just because they appear to have a different ambiance when taking the picture that I like.
If you notice, they have right about the same kinds of features as the Canon (and price!):

Sea Turtle Finds Lost Camera

Wednesday, June 16th, 2010

I found a camera and Ikelite waterproof housing washed ashore in Key West, FL. Pictures indicate it floated all the way from Aruba over a period of 6 months. Half way through the journey, this sea turtle came across it and tried to eat it, turning the camera on and recording himself. The owner has been located in Aruba and confirmed he lost it while diving off Aruba on November 11, 2009. The last thing the owner did was take a video, so the camera was in video mode. This incident with the turtle ocurred on January 15, 2010. The camera washed ashore in Key West on May 16, 2010 covered in growth.

Based on time, I estimate this video to have ocurred in the vicinity of Honduras.

The camera is a Nikon Coolpix L18. The waterproof housing is an Ikelite.

Special thanks to the good people of Scubaboard.com, Cruisecritic.com, and Aruba.com for helping me find the owner. I could not have done it without their help.

Anyone interested in reading the case as it was solved, read here:

What is the difference between 35mm camera and a 36mm camera?

Monday, June 14th, 2010

I have to take a photography class for my major and it says that I need a 35mm Camera… I just got a 36mm camera last year. What is a 35 mm/ 36mm camera, is there a difference, and is it worth it to go out and by a new camera?

There is no such animal as a 36mm camera.

The 35mm camera shoots at a film frame with the size of 24mm x 36mm.

If you indeed have a 36mm camera, you may have trouble finding 36mm film for it as all the boxes in the stores are labelled 35mm. I highly suggest you drop the camera from a height of one meter to compress it down to 35mm. Then, hopefully, you will have no more problems.
